Counseling Services...

Sometimes problems are difficult to face on your own. A professional counselor can listen, and provide insight to help you make it through this phase. Going to a counselor does not mean you are "crazy." In fact, it is one of the best choices an individual can make! As a mental health professional with several years of experience working in both private practice and group practice, and experience working in a medical facility, I understand the issues that can arise from both medical and non-medical mental health problems. Typically we will start with 4-6 weekly or bi-weekly sessions, which last approximately 45-50 minutes each.

Marriage counseling. In order for counseling to help, both spouses need to be willing and agree to make changes in the relationship. Husband and wife are both present for the sessions (unless directed otherwise). You will work on communication issues, develop a marriage mission statement, and look to the future to improve your marriage relationship. Learn how to support one another effectively, "fight" fairly, and listen to the needs of your mate. Pre-marital counseling is also recommended for couples who are engaged, or considering engagement.

Family counseling. Often the counseling need extends to the entire family. It could be a child who misbehaves, or an adolescent who feels depressed. Or perhaps the family has lost a loved one, or has experienced a divorce. Blended families also possess a unique set of difficulties. Family counseling can help each member to play a supportive role in the healing process.

Parenting Advice. They aren't born with instructions, and as they grow we often realize how much we need someone's advice on how to raise them...children, that is. If you are having difficulty getting your 3-year-old to cooperate or your child to finish his homework; or your problems extend to a teen-age daughter, as parents you may benefit from counseling. In the event of step-families, it is most helpful for all parents to engage in counseling as a means of providing a united front for the children.

Individual counseling. Sometimes your family or spouse is unavailable or unwilling to join you for counseling, and you feel the need to talk to someone who is trained to listen. Or perhaps you have recently gone through a divorce, and feel you can't cope with the effects. Individual counseling may be an option for you. You can have a positive effect on your marriage, family, workplace, or future by making a change yourself. Individual counseling is available for all ages (eight and up).
